Friday Feast number 134

Sorry I have been so bad about blogging this week. I haven't even cooked that much.
Don't worry, nothing much has happened. The weather is finally warming up, we didn't win the megamillions (or whatever you call it), and we have been working too much.

Appetizer
What is your usual bedtime? Do you like that, or would you rather it be different?

It completely varies. I would say somewhere between 8 and 12. I wish I could be on a better schedule but there are usually too many things I need to do at night (and yes, watching TV is a need)

Soup
When it comes to advice, do you give more or receive more?

Hmmm.. I would say that at least lately I have taken more advice than I have given.

Salad
Describe a memorable meal you've had.

I have lots of memorable meals... the one that sticks out in my mind is our anniversary dinner in Chicago. Jason surprised me with a trip and we got a recommendation from the hotel concierge. I can tell you the whole meal. I had pumpkin souffle for an appetizer, gnocchi and ragu for the main course, and creme brulee for dessert. It was all wonderful but the pumpkin souffle was amazing!

Main Course

Name a work of fiction that affected the way you think about something.

I don't know that it necessarily made me think differently about something... but 'My Sisters Keeper' definitely made me think about life in general.

Dessert

What is your favorite type of fruit juice?

Orange juice.. no pulp. I would also say that sometimes crave tomato juice... I will leave it up to everyone else to decide if that is a fruit juice or not.

The Friday Feast is a weekly meme intended to "feed your mind by asking thought-provoking, mind-stimulating questions."

Glad to see that My Sister's Keeper had an effect on you. I still think it is one of the best books I have read in
a while.
Also. I find it amazing that you haven't been cooking this week and the tomato is definitely a fruit.

Hmmmm, let's see. Jason can't spell parmigiana and I guess you can't spell pumpkin! Don't quit your day job...and yes, a tomato is definitely a fruit. As both of you probably know, a tomato is the ovary, together with its seeds, of a flowering plant, that is a fruit or, more precisely, a berry. However, from a cooking point of view, the tomato is not as sweet as those foods usually called fruits and it is typically served as part of a main course of a meal, as are other vegetables, rather than as an appetizer or dessert.Since the term "vegetable" has no botanical meaning and is purely a culinary term, I guess you can call it either one!

Actually the term vegetable is from vegetative tissue.. so anything that can be planted to generate new plants can be considered a fruit. Therefore, the only true vegetables would be leafy greens, celery and root vegetables and the broccoli family since we eat it before it actually flowers (although you can plant potatoes to make new potoatoes but they are genetic clones of the previous plants... the same is true for garlic and onion). Everything else... cucumbers, zucchini, egglplant, corn, peas, green beans.... those are all 'fruits'.

Well what group would bananas or seedless watermelons belong to? Originally they were seeded plants but domestication has yielded what we have today, where they don't have seeds and any new plant is actually a clone of a previous plant. Would these be fruits? Vegetables? Fruitables?

I like your new category "Fruitables!" I think you can market that term.

All this talk about fruits and vegetables leads me to ask: Would a gay guy in an irreversible coma be considered a fruit or a vegetable or both? (my apologies if my question offends any comatose gay guys out there...)
